My friend Jonathan Ohliger, founder of Veepio, thought I would enjoy attending this event with him.
I have been in the investment business for over 25 years and currently work with families, foundations and endowments in my role at AB Bernstein. At Bernstein we are building entire portfolios based in sustainability and impact but I am finding that the impact investment conversation is bleeding over into my non-profit world as well. I currently sit on the boards of A.I. duPont Nemours Children’s Hospital, The Delaware Community Foundation and St. Michael’s School & Nursery. I have also been involved in the launch of Second Chances Farm which is a Vertical Farm located in Wilmington Delaware. The Farm obviously has a sustainable Ag and Food angle but it is a business (not a non-profit), located in an opportunity zone and only employs people coming out of the prison system (jobs, entrepreneurial training, equity in a business).
I am very interested in the investment world from a career standpoint but I am also interested in sustainable businesses and a shift by a segment of charitable people, entrepreneurs and foundations who are not interested in making donations/grants. They would rather have impact on their community and society by investing in businesses where there is potential for a return on investment and sustainable business models where the business and investment are doing good (job creation, needed services, etc).
I have been married for nineteen years to my beautiful wife and have two sons who are 9 and 13 years old. We love skiing and other sports.
I am also the founder of Nine Holes Anywhere “The Original croquet Golf”. www.nineholesanywhere.com
I hand make the mallets for this game my father and uncle invented in 1969. The game is like golf, though not as difficult, and allows players to turn any property into a nine hole “croquet” golf course. We have been in Garden & Gun Magazine and Bill Murray loves the game and asked me to attend the Murray Brothers Caddyshack Golf Tournament three years ago to feature the game. I just hosted my annual Nine Holes Anywhere Croquet Golf Tournaments at my home with over 150 players and raised almost $50,000 for and early Childhood Education School called St. Michael’s School & Nursery.
