Joe Flippin

Joe is a Financial Advisor at Morgan Stanley who works with individuals and families, private businesses, and nonprofit clients helping them to manage risks, maximize returns, and align their investments with their values. He has a passion for investing with impact and a commitment to global sustainable development informed by his years of public service. Prior to becoming a Financial Advisor Joe managed over $100 million in federal grants and worked on international diplomacy and leadership development at the U.S. Department of State. Joe is the Treasurer for Saving Jane, a nonprofit which provides human trafficking awareness education in schools across the country. He previously served as a volunteer fundraiser for anti-human trafficking organizations. Joe is also an active member of the CFA Society of Washington, DC where, as recent Chair of the Member Engagement Committee, he helped foster a sense of community among over 3,000 finance professionals in the Greater DC Area. Joe has a B.A. in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.A. in Criminal Justice from City University of New York – John Jay College. Joe and his wife, Meg, live with their three cats in Chevy Chase, MD.

Describe the Impact of a Project you’re focused on.

Gathering, managing, and deploying wealth to promote LGBTQ equality in a portfolio that can customized for any level of risk. Impact will be achieved through: 1) Investing in line with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2) Investing in companies that value diversity and inclusion 3) Active ownership, and leveraging investments to advocate for equal protections in the workplace 4) Pooling charitable assets in an LGBTQ impact strategy and granting money to high-impact charitable institutions

What results do you hope for when the impact is amplified?

1) Tens of thousands of workersIncreased shareholder engagement resulting in broader LGBTQ workplace protections, promotion potential, and Board diversity 2) Increased capital donated to nonprofits that have a proven service model for benefiting the LGBTQ community

What do you have to offer as a connector? What can you give as expertise to others?

1) As a connector: I’m well networked in the nonprofit arena and in the sustainable investing space. I am always happy to make connections 2) Expertise: I offer a holistic approach as a Financial Advisor to help individuals and organizations align their investments to their values and mission. I combine my fluency in impact investing and global sustainable development with subject matter experts inside Morgan Stanley to solve for any financial goal a client (individual or institution) may have
